How to Find Your Passion in Asking for Money
The first answer to your question is “Yes!” You read this correctly. While you might be thinking that “money is the root of all evil” and “the bain of your existence” and “the thing that keeps you up at night,” let’s get honest about what is going on.
The bottom line is that while you love certain types of paper you choose with words on them (i.e., books, particularly the ones you write), you also spend a lot of time condemning pieces of paper with words on them (i.e., money!).
WHY DOES IT NEED TO BE PASSION VS MONEY?
Sometime along the journey of your life, you decided creativity was good and money was bad. It could have been because your parents told you that making a living as an artist would be hard and that no one would pay you for it. You saw a stake in the road that indicated you could not have both. As life moved along, you miraculously decided you were right. You started to struggle with bills and couldn’t take vacations or buy new clothes because there just wasn’t enough.
Our minds love to make us right.
We love the security of knowing. You know each month you continue to work towards the next book deal, you may have to cut corners or get another part time job to sustain your life.
But, what if on the other side of being right, you could have your art and money?
As long as you continue to tell yourself it is hard and not possible; it will continue to be difficult and impossible. When you let go of the idea that it needs to be a struggle, you create space for it to become something else. If you open your eyes, you can see a world around you with writers and artists who are making a good living and enjoying a great lifestyle. They aren’t necessarily better writers or luckier writers. They were willing to live openly with the idea that they could create the life they wanted and so they worked towards that end.
NOTHING COMES WITHOUT EFFORT, MONEY INCLUDED.
Don’t start chanting for money in your room and expect money fall out of the sky. It is about seeing the value of your work, staying open, and believing that the opportunities you seek are out there. What is also important is that you stop pushing money away by being negative about your financial situation. It is about loving the paper you write and read your words on as much as you love the artistic paper that we happen to call currency. Look for ways that money is willing to come to you through sharing your gifts. You can teach others how to publish their books or how to write their stories, while you plug away at marketing your material.
LOOK AT THE SIGNS.
When you get into action with the correct mindset, the universe starts working with you. As the universe works with you, opportunities will start to unfold. Whatever you do, don’t ignore them.
Just as I am asking you to lighten up on money, I am asking for you to explore your mission. If you have it in your mind that there is only one way to meet a publisher, self publish, or get noticed; you are cheating yourself of all that is out there in the world. Once you get into your rhythm, you will be more confident with working with the universe. You will get excited. With excitement, comes more courage.
WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT MONEY ISN’T WHAT EVERYONE ELSE IS THINKING.
Your thoughts are your thoughts. Just because you think that money is a certain way, does not mean others think that way. In fact, most people resent and resist money because they are thinking negatively about people with money. These thoughts keeps you from getting what you want because you don’t feel comfortable with what you make money mean, not the money itself.
ARE YOU STARTING TO GET THE IDEA THAT NONE OF THIS IS THE FAULT OF MONEY?
When you are no longer angry, frustrated, or feeling doped, you can start to get down to the business of working with money instead of against it. What would your life look like if you had double or triple the money coming in every month? What would you be able to do for yourself or your family? Isn’t it amazing that money can give you freedom around a lot of things you want?
Started saying “yes” to money!
Begin to believe that it is going to come to you as you put the energy towards making it and let every part of your being welcome it. I had a client recently call me and tell me she just got a check for $11,0000.00. How did she do it? She used a visualization I taught her where I said that I just gave her $20,000.00 cash and to hold onto it. She started to meditate on that vision everyday. She started to visualize making love to the money!!
How about that for passion?
GET EXCITED ABOUT ASKING FOR MONEY.
When you ask for money, it is in an exchange for your value of services or products. If you believe in the joy you are bringing others, then it makes sense that others would want to give you money in exchange for the pleasure you provide. It is an energetic exchange. You can’t continue to write if you don’t make money for your work. You cannot share your vision if you don’t earn enough to survive. It is a natural and healthy exchange. It is one you can easily embrace and get passionate about.
DISCOVER YOUR MONEY PASSION NOW.
As a business and money coach, I like to provide actionable steps. I want to see you make a change right away. Remember, new habits take a few weeks of being consistent in order start doing things in a new way.
The first thing you need to do is to commit to liking money and welcoming it into your life. Start by waking up every morning and sitting up on the floor quietly for five minutes. Visualize holding $20,000.00 and let that feeling get real. Imagine what you will do with the money. It may feel empty and scary to realize all the excuses about what you can’t do because of money no longer exist. Sit with it.
Second, think about three people you could call that could help you move forward in obtaining the money you want. If it is a call that is a process, like looking for a publisher, do that and think of another person where the results will be more immediate. Once you set your mind up to invite money in, ideas will start flooding in.
Third, make sure you follow up. Don’t call and give up. You need to stay the course and keep the momentum up for at least three weeks.
